For our research project, we will explore the emphasis of writing in the field of Criminology and Justice. This study is being conducted to examine the views that criminal justice professionals, specifically in the NYPD's 115 precinct and detective squad, have towards writing in the criminal justice field.
For the semester of Spring 2014, the researchers will conduct surveys with members of the 115th precinct. In these surveys, the researchers will pose questions regarding topics such as: how often writing is used in their position, how much emphasis is given to writing in their position, the importance that was given to writing throughout the course of their education, is writing emphasized in their training, and their views on how much emphasis they believe writing should be given in the field of Criminology and Justice.
The researchers will analyze the collected responses in an attempt to examine the perceived advantages and disadvantages of writing to evaluate the rates of success and failure in the field in terms of its anticipated outcomes. This project will be presented at the American Society of Criminology Conference and will hopefully provide insight to other individuals associated with the field of Criminology and Justice across the nation.
