Our research group has been collecting data and studying crime by police officers in the United States since 2005. Previously there were no comprehensive statistics available on problems of police integrity in the United States because no government agency collects data on criminal arrests of police officers. We are currently completing a final report for an NIJ-funded study that is filling that gap by determining the extent and nature of police crime, determining which factors influence how a law enforcement agency responds to criminal arrests of its officers, and fostering police integrity by exploring whether arrests of officers correlate with other forms of police misconduct. The research group is continuing as a longitudinal trend study of police crime. It is anticipated that annual reports on police crime will be a major product of the longitudinal trend study going forward. This poster will present a prototype of an annual report on police crime in the United States. The annual report prototype will serve as a design template for the purpose of getting feedback and informal peer review prior to submission of a new application for external funding.
