What does being digitally literate mean to you? Perceptions from the Incarcerated

Thu, Nov 20, 6:00 to 8:00pm, Marriott, Golden Gate, B2 Level

Abstract

Being digitally literate means that you have the awareness of, knowledge about, ability and skills to select and use digital tools to locate, organize, evaluate, analyze, create, use and communicate information. This can be as simple as sending an email to your state representative. But as complex as trying to use a website to figure out which one of 50 recommended health providers you should make an appointment to visit. Once a luxury, being digitally literate is now a life skill that many incarcerated people leave prison without. This poster highlights preliminary findings from semi-structured interviews with incarcerated people regarding their perceptions about digital literacy and its place in their reentry trajectory.
