Given its population growth and relative economic health, it is not surprising that Seattle, WA is experiencing drastic change. Due to the expansion of Seattle’s transit system and vast public and private investment, there are two neighborhoods that are currently experiencing substantial changes, Capitol Hill and South Lake Union. The purpose of this project is to provide the Seattle Police Department (SPD) with recommendations that are grounded in primary data, the theoretical literature, and empirical best practices on ways in which officers can maximize their effectiveness amid the "changing face" of these two prominent neighborhoods. Elements that are assessed include the potential impact of major changes in mass transit and vast public and private investment on the quality of street dynamics and the intersection of policing and gentrification.
