In Event: ‘Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives': A Contribution to Learning and Understanding-A Debate
In traditional liberal arts education the fields of criminology and social work are presented as distinct, even dichotomous, bodies of knowledge. Considering the abundant overlap of the two disciplines, this presentation has led to needlessly fragmented research and practice implementation. The solution to overcoming these pedagogically imposed limitations to the field, however, involves more than expanding the professional knowledge base. The solution necessitates fostering the ability to interpret information through various lenses. We must continue to cross boundaries and utilize innovative strategies in order to effectively serve as public service and change agents.
