As part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Division of Women and Crime, Lateefah Simon, Director of the California’s Future Initiative for the Rosenberg Foundation, will be speaking about her experiences working with and on behalf of young women and girls in the Juvenile Justice System. Ms. Simon is a nationally recognized civil rights leader, and the initiative she directs is a strategic effort to change the odds for women and children in the state. In addition, prior to her position at the Rosenberg Foundation, Ms. Simon served as the Director at the Center for Young Women’s Development, as chronicled in the film, Girl Trouble. During this plenary address, Ms. Simon will be speaking directly to Division members who are currently researching or exploring policy and program strategies related to women’s incarceration and de-incarceration, juvenile delinquency, child abuse, and civil rights.
