The papers in this session present findings from methodological research initiated by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in support of redesigning the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). The presentations consider methods with the potential to improve the measurement of criminal victimization while reducing costs for the survey. Topics include the —addition of attitudinal and behavioral questions to facilitate recall of victimization events; examination of inbound CATI and Web modes as complementary forms of NCVS data collection; and, use of Interactive Voice Response (IVR) as a method of collecting better information on more sensitive survey items such as rape and sexual assault.
