Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
Much of the prior research on adolescent relationship abuse and harassment has come from either a few questions on a large national survey or from studies that do not have a national scope. The goal of this panel is to present research findings from three national surveys that focus on dating violence and/or harassment among adolescents. In the first presentation, data from 2,354 adolescents and their caregivers who participated in the National Survey on Teen Relationships and Intimate Violence (STRiV) will be used to examine the parenting profiles associated with adolescent relationship abuse. The second presentation will examine the overlap between dating violence and other forms of victimization among Latino adolescents who participated in the Dating Violence among Latino Adolescents (DAVILA) study. In the third presentation, data from the national Technology-Involved Harassment Victimization (THV) Study will be analyzed to examine how technology-based harassment overlaps with and is predicted by the full spectrum of victimization experiences of youth. Discussion will emphasize: 1) the importance of considering the full range of adolescent victimization experiences in delivering services; and 2) engaging parents in the prevention of adolescent relationship abuse and harassment.
