Convict Criminology Community Corrections

Abstract

Much convict criminology research has focused on the experience of incarceration. This, of course, is justified as many convict criminologists have experience directly relevant to incarceration, as well as by the fact that confinement may be the most severe form of punishment.

However, the majority of those who fall into the net of the criminal justice system do not get sent to prison, but rather, are supervised in the community. The experience and consequences of community corrections remain underexplored by current research. This roundtable session will focus on using insights gained from the convict criminology perspective to explore punishment as experienced by those who are supervised in the community, and the attitudes which surround community corrections.
