Nine of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) sites have addressed gun violence problems through place- and offender-focused strategies and enhanced technology. Several of these sites have produced evaluation findings with rigorous research designs, while others are deeply into their strategy implementation. This panel will highlight the emerging research findings regarding evidence-based gun violence reduction strategies, and focus on challenges and lessons learned regarding gun violence reduction in several SPI sites. The SPI sites working on gun violence include: Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Cambridge/Somerville/Everett, MA; East Palo Alto, CA; Joliet, IL; Kansas City, MO; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; and Rochester, NY.
