Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
This roundtable brings together NIJ’s tribal research team and project principal investigators who are examining American Indian and Alaska Native crime and justice issues in tribal communities in the U.S. Panelists will provide a brief summary of recently completed studies and an overview of current studies including the National Baseline Study—the first national study conducted in Indian Country and Alaska Villages. The discussion also will address gaps in research along with challenges in conducting research in tribal communities. NIJ’s tribal program manager will provide an overview of upcoming funding and partnership opportunities that were established to further expand NIJ’s tribal crime and justice research and evaluation portfolio and address the lack of empirical tribal data and research to inform justice policy and practice.
