A substantial body of research has examined the correlates of death penalty support/opposition, but relatively little work has addressed the question of whether or not there are different types of death penalty proponents and opponents. The present study is based on the 1972-2014 cumulative data file of the NORC General Social Surveys and examines whether or not there are different clusters of death penalty supporters and opposers,and, if so, describes the profiles of each cluster. In addition the study examines differences in these clusters over time
