This paper seeks to understand what makes a film popular for illegal downloading. Variables such as genre, film file source, opening box office weekend, file size, and film reviews are all accounted for in a multivariate linear model that attempts to predict file sharing popularity measured in total downloads and individuals sharing / seeding of files. Included in this research is an explanation on how file sharing works, a crime prevention strategy, and a descriptive description of who is uploading these illegal files for downloading.
