Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Bridge, Riverside Complex

Abstract

Access to virtual reality technology is becoming more common with the recent release of devices such as the Oculus Rift and the Samsung Gear. While this technology and these headsets are often associated with gaming, using a virtual environment to achieve a variety of goals has been ongoing for several decades. Some uses include creating virtual crime scenes, firearms training and treatment for a variety of mental disorders such as anxiety disorder and PTSD. As the technology grows in popularity, the uses in the criminal justice system are likely to expand as well. Current uses will be discussed and predictions about future uses will be presented.
