Girls' Use of Violence: Urban, Suburban, and Rural Differences

Thu, Nov 17, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Grand Salon 6, 1st Level

Abstract

Though there is a rapidly growing literature on geographic variations in crime, it is still unclear whether rural girls are at greater or lesser risk of committing violent offenses than are their urban and suburban counterparts. This article uses 1992-2014 National Crime Victimization Survey Data (NCVS) to help fill this research gap. Furthermore, using the same data set, we examine contextual differences between boys' and girls' use of violence in rural, urban, and suburban places.
