The Importance of Communication, Coordination and Context in Reducing Lethal Violence

Abstract

Law enforcement can play a key role in reducing and preventing lethal violence in New Orleans. I suggest that critical elements for developing successful strategies include: (1) the importance of understanding and tracking changes in the situational context of homicide and (2) the development of strategies to improve commu¬nication and coordination within and outside the criminal justice system. I conclude with a review of the benefit of police-researcher partnerships for producing effective crime reduction strategies.
