While the strength of the lifecourse/developmental (LCD) perspective in theoretical and empirical examinations of deviant and antisocial behavior has been consistently demonstrated, this body of work has given only limited attention to schools and education as salient influences. By contrast, there much more research using other theoretical frameworks to examine school-related risk factors that influence deviance, crime, and other developmental outcomes. We use data from the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002, a nationally representative sample of high school students to investigate the influence of early life school discipline on educational and occupational attainment in later lifecourse stages.
