Social Capital Theory and Cross-National Variation of Homicide Rate

Abstract

The present work evaluated the relationship between social capital and homicide rates through the use of remedial measures due to a paucity and limitations of prior cross-national studies on the relationship. The information on social capital was obtained from the World Value Survey (World Values Survey Association, 2015) and international homicide rate data was retrieved from the World Health Organization(2011. 2014). Regression analysis found the only moderate support for a relationship between social capital theory and homicide rates. The interpretation of such findings is discussed.
