Co-production of Police Relevant Research for the Police in Finland

Thu, Nov 17, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Chart C, Riverside Complex

Abstract

There is a long tradition of close co-operation with the University of Tampere and the Police University College in Finland. The Masters Program of Policing and Police Management (since 1998) and the Doctoral Program at the University of Tampere are part of higher police education, funded by the Police and the University. Most of the students are senior police officers who conduct innovative policy and practice relevant research for the police as a part of their studies (graduate thesis, doctoral dissertation). Scientific research enhances intellectual capital and organizational resilience of the police. Together with international partners, research projects can produce significant scientific and police relevant results. As an example case, the Finnish contribution for the Professional Resilience and Efficiency research program is introduced.
