A School District and Juvenile Court Partnership for Working with Low-Risk Delinquent Youth

Abstract

Collaborations between the education system and the juvenile court have the potential to provide low-risk delinquent youth with the support and services they need to succeed in school and in their communities. One specific way these two systems collaborate is through school-based interventions that target low-risk delinquent youth. To date, research has yet to determine whether these types of interventions are effective, or under what conditions they might be effective. The ongoing School Safety and Student Performance Research Project aims to shed light on these issues. In this presentation, we briefly discuss the various components of this specific intervention, implementation facilitators for successful collaboration between school and court agencies, and unique lessons learned for targeting low-risk delinquent youth.
