From Sexual Assault to Examination: Factors that Influence the Variation in Time Frame

Sat, Nov 19, 9:30 to 10:50am, Hilton, Steering, Riverside Complex

Abstract

Through the use of the Provider Sexual Crime Report (PSCR), we sought to determine whether there are particular factors that influence the time between the end of the sexual assault and the start of the medical examination. The PSCR is a rich dataset, of which we will use the following variables: survivor race, time of assault, location, survivor/assailant relationship, and injury. We expect to see a difference in time lapse between assault and examination amongst the variables. Policy implications from this study are significant, as they can enhance the quality of treatment for the survivor and likelihood of arrest of the offender.
