Law Enforcement and their Experiences with Trauma: Exposure During an Intrinsic Career

Thu, Nov 17, 9:30 to 10:50am, Hilton, Chequers, 2nd Level

Abstract

Over the course of a career, law enforcement is subjected to a variety of traumatic duty-related experiences that involve the deaths of individuals by various causes and manners. A survey of police officers, both current and retired, from a multitude of suburban police departments, will offer a quantification for analyzing how much tragedy law enforcement is exposed to during career intervals. This further provides data to policy-makers when determining whether interventions and training are necessary and beneficial to those exposed to violent and traumatic deaths.
