States do vary in the kinds and levels of safeguards against wrongful conviction they have established, and in a recent article concerning wrongful conviction research, the authors suggested the examination of causes of variation would be a fruitful area of study. There is a significant literature in political science that explores correlates of various types of policies. This paper will draw on that literature to examine possible correlates of wrongful conviction policy.
