Abstract

Existing literature has consistently demonstrated the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and negative adult outcomes. Scholars have also argued that sexual minorities have had a higher prevalence of ACEs compared to heterosexual counterparts. Furthermore, exposure to ACEs has been significantly correlated with poor physical and mental health outcomes, adverse drinking and drug use behaviors, and increased victimization experiences in adulthood. Using a sample of survey responses, the current study examined the effects of ACEs on adverse victimization and antisocial behavior outcomes in adulthood among heterosexual and sexual minority populations. Implications and future research directions are discussed.
