Sexual Violence on Canadian University Campuses: The State of the Literature

Abstract

This study aims to explore the question of sexual violence on university campuses in Canada. There is currently a dearth of Canadian research on this topic. However, as more women are pursuing higher education, it is essential that we have some data and knowledge about this issue. As a result, this presentation examines available literature on sexual on sexual violence on Canadian University campuses. The presentation reviews the literature to understand better the nature extent and severity of sexual violence on campuses; the general environment on university campuses vis-a-vis sexual violence, available services reporting dynamics and the ability to reduce the incidences. The presentation summarizes the state of the literature and suggests future research needed. Data bases searched include Academic Search Primer, Canadian Public Policy Collection, Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Criminal Justice Abstracts & Full Texts, and Criminal Justice Periodicals.
