Differences in Arrest by Ethnicity for Foreign and Non-Foreign Born Latinos

Abstract

Extant research suggests that immigrants engage in less crime than their native born counterparts. Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), the relationships between foreign born Latinos (first generation) and having one parent who is a foreign born Latino (second generation) and the likelihood of arrest and the number of arrests are examined. Differences by ethnicity – Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Central/South American – are also examined.
