Responding to Organised Economic Cybercrimes

Fri, Nov 18, 3:30 to 4:50pm, Hilton, Parish, 3rd Level

Abstract

‘Organised crime’ is replete with mythologies and ‘facts by repetition’ (van Duyne and Levi, 2005), even without taking into consideration the online dimension. Based on research conducted in collaboration with British police forces, this paper summarises what conclusions can be drawn about the organisation of offending from victimisation reports and private sector data on how crimes are committed, and how the police and private sector are organised to handle the different aspects of economic cybercrime.
