In 2014, the highest levels of the Mississippi Department of Corrections were rocked by a major scandal involving corruption, greed and a violation of trust involving the Commissioner of Corrections Christopher Epps and a Cecil McCrory, a high profile former legislator and current lobbyist involving millions of dollars in public funds. This paper addresses the accusations, investigation, and policy changes implemented as a result of the largest scandal to impact the prison system in the history of the State in the modern era.
