Abstract

Julie Marie Baldwin, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Missouri State University, earning her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Criminology, Law & Society (2013). Julie is the leading researcher on veterans treatment courts (VTCs), working with researchers, practitioners, and legislatures in this area across the United States. She has completed national surveys of VTCs, as well as implementation and intermediate impact evaluations of VTCs, and maintains strong researcher-practitioner partnerships across the country. Julie is currently the primary co-principal investigator on a 3-year multi-site evaluation of VTCs funded by the National Institute of Justice ($761,231.00). Her research interests primarily include military service and crime/delinquency, courts, and drug policy and use/misuse. She conducts translational research utilizing mixed methods, and some of her recent publications can be found in The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Criminal Justice and Behavior, Criminal Justice Policy Review, and Drug and Alcohol Dependence. Prior to attending the doctoral program at Florida, she worked as a court analyst for the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division (2008-2009) and a paralegal and FOIL administrator for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in the Appeals Bureau (2007-2008) and obtained her M.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice (2007) and B.A. from the University of North Florida (2004), both in criminal justice.
