Abstract

This presentation will present promising policy and practice directions for youth leadership to build communities and prevent violence via the Peace by Piece Program, an initiative of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Green oversees the Peace by Piece Nonviolence Youth Program and its organizing arm, PxP. A 2007 New Voices Gulf Coast Transformation Fellow, she served as Program Director for Kids Rethink New Orleans Schools. With more than 15 years of experience, she has worked in and managed youth programs for Just Communities, The Women’s Project and Women and Children First in Arkansas. Green has worked both regionally and nationally as a social justice advocate. She’s served as a consultant for Community Media Organizing Project, Equity and Inclusion Campaign’s Education Working Group and The Office of Violence Against Women Rural Grant Program, an agency of the Department of Justice. She also served on the board of the Progressive Communicators Network, a national network of people who work as communications professionals or organizers who are focused on racial or economic justice, and who use communications tools and strategy. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
