Examining Heterogeneity in the Effects of Prior Criminal Record on Inmate Misconduct

Fri, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Grand Salon 12, 1st Level

Abstract

Reviews of the inmate misconduct literature have identified between study heterogeneity in the effects of prior criminal record on misconduct, but there have been few attempts to identify the sources of this heterogeneity. We systematically review the inmate misconduct literature to identify the sources of heterogeneity in the effects of prior criminal record on inmate misconduct. We also use data from the 1997 and 2004 Survey of Inmates in State and Federal Correctional Facilities to further examine the sources of heterogeneous effects of prior criminal record on inmate misconduct. Implications for policy and practice are discussed.
