Medical Examiner's Role in Murder Cases in South Korea

Abstract

This paper studies the postmortem investigation system in Korea. Korean postmortem investigation system has faced problems and issues due to lack of effective and efficient death investigation system. Compared to the U.S. and other countries, Korean death investigation system has a unique legal system, socioeconomic status, and historical background. In Korea, for example, the police and prosecutor take charge of crime investigation including death investigation. It is the time to give a comprehensive examination on Korean death investigation system. This paper also presents several suggestions to improve the system.
