100,000 Years Nuclear Waste Deep Underground Repository: Can We Keep it Safely without Troubles and Accidents for Such a Long Time?

Abstract

The Aral Sea was, up until the third quarter of the 20th century, the world's fourth largest saline lake.Its crisis is the result of large and brutal human impact, followed by the interaction between complex mechanisms present in nature. Forcing nature into adapting fast to a demand of unprecedented scale by economic and political reasoning has brought us the consequences which seemed to pose no threat at first yet turned out to be disastrous in the long run. The fragility of the balance present in nature combined with vast and abrupt changes due to human society has triggered an immensely complex set of changes in the environment. Although thresholds have been crossed, it is still worth the effort of reversing some of the feedback loops. Problems concerning the Aral Sea Crisis are analyzed from a green criminology perspective and the way to overcome them is suggested.
