Campus Climate Survey Validation Study (CCSVS): Measurement and Validity

Wed, Nov 16, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Hilton, Bridge, Riverside Complex

Abstract

RTI International and the Bureau of Justice Statistics collaborated on the Campus Climate Survey Validation Study (CCSVS), which was conducted in Spring 2015 and used a confidential, web-based survey at a diverse set of nine colleges and universities to collect data on sexual assault and campus climate from 23,000 undergraduate students (15,000 women and 8,000 men). Incentives were provided to increase sample representativeness and response rates (54 percent for women), and when students who took the survey were compared to those who did not on a large number of characteristics, almost no evidence of bias was detected. This presentation will cover the impact that different measurement approaches have on victimization estimates, and how victimization estimates compare to external measures as an assessment of validity.
