Cyberbullying: Examining the Role of Self-Control and Internet Addiction

Abstract

Criminological and cyberpsychological research focus on self-control and Internet Addiction separately. To date, no research has examined the differences between these two constructs in the context of cyberbullying. The purpose of the present study is to examine the roles of self-control and Internet Addiction. The data consist of 300 college students. The college students participated in an online experiment in which students reported the likelihood of being a cyberbullying victim. The results show that these two constructs can provide separate explanations. The implications of this research is explored for criminological and cyberpsychological research.
