Building Effective Partnerships between Universities and State Agencies

Wed, Nov 16, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, Jefferson Ballroom, 3rd Level

Abstract

Conducting policy relevant research through the implementation of researcher-practitioner partnerships has emerged in recent years as an effective approach to using research to inform policy and practice. There has been limited attention in the literature on how to implement and maintain these partnerships. Effective research-practitioner partnerships involve reciprocity by providing direct assistance to correctional agencies while simultaneously providing researchers with research opportunities, publications, and policy accomplishments. Most importantly, these partnerships assist in increasing public safety and cost effectiveness. This presentation describes the research partnerships between the FSU College of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Florida Departments of Corrections and Juvenile Justice. This presentation will identify and discuss the development and impact these successful partnerships have had on criminal justice policy and practice.
