Thu, Nov 17, 9:30 to 10:50am, Hilton, Chart C, Riverside Complex

Abstract

This paper presents data on the interrelationship between migration, economic opportunity, drug/alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and children for women in prisons in three countries, Germany, the United States, and Russia. The three authors have collected primary data in prisons in their respective countries and integrate these with the existing literature in the field. The resulting discussion shows the prevalent role of these basic themes across the political and economic contexts of their respective countries, but with significant variations.
