Abstract
This paper assesses current campus safety initiatives at the University of Guelph. This was achieved through the use of a mixed methods approach in order to collect and interpret the information. A quantitative analysis of an online survey disseminated to the undergraduate student population was analyzed using statistical software. Additionally, a qualitative analysis of semi structured in person interviews was conducted with key divisions of current campus safety initiatives throughout the university. Utilizing a mixed methods approach allowed for both a larger sample population (through an online survey) and an in-depth understanding of the current campus safety initiatives on campus (through interviews). The findings included an existing difficulty of effectively connecting with the undergraduate student population. The majority of current campus safety initiatives were actively attempting to improve the overall awareness of efforts throughout the student population. This paper will also outline potential limitations of this study, including the need for improved dissemination, and suggested future research.
