Abstract

The presence of queer, black, transgender, and female convict perspectives in the criminological knowledge-base
are few and research which tracks the movement of these populations into crime related faculty positions and
graduate programs are far between. This paper outlines the results of a review of the literature and foundation-based
research which revealed these deficiencies. The problems stemming from such blindspots in our discipline are
discussed. The importance of con and non-con allies to the successful inclusion of these important voices via faculty
hiring and graduate program admissions in Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Sociology programs are explored.
Convict Criminology allies and convicts respond to the importance of the role of CC group to produce those
perspectives and make suggestions for change.
