Negative Emotions and Juvenile Delinquency: A Longitudinal Analysis

Abstract

A plethora of academic studies has highlighted the effect of negative emotions on juvenile delinquency to address an age-old question: Why do some youngsters commit deviant behaviors while others do not? A majority of the studies, however, utilize a cross-sectional method and target American juveniles. Thus, this study attempts to fill the void in the current literature by focusing on South Korean youth in the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS). In addition, this study employs one of growth modeling methods, Latent Growth Modeling (LGM), to investigate the influence of anxiety and depression on the delinquency over a period of time.
