The Foreign Sun, It Squints Upon/A Bed That is Never Mine: How Domestic Sex Offender Policies Violate International Human Rights Laws and Ethical Standards

Abstract

Sex offender law and policy in the United States violates international human rights law standards, and comes up short when measured against most other nations with developed economies. This paper will assess domestic policy against the demands of international treaties and conventions (with special attention paid to the UN’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) and international professional associations’ standards of ethics, and will conclude that the ongoing domestic violations of these conventions, treaties and standards appear to be “off the radar” for virtually all policy makers in this nation.
