Assessing Perceived Benefits and Uses of Information and Analytic Technologies across Units and Ranks in Multiple Police Agencies

Fri, Nov 18, 8:00 to 9:20am, Hilton, St. Charles Ballroom, 3rd Level

Abstract

This paper will draw upon officer surveys and qualitative fieldwork in two large agencies to explore the contextual factors that shape perceptions and uses of information and analytic technologies in police agencies and to assess how these factors may shape internal and external outcomes (e.g., changes in accountability, efficiency, and crime prevention) resulting from technological change. The paper will focus on perceptions of technology across units and ranks within agencies and explore similarities and differences in these patterns across two agencies with substantially different levels of technological sophistication.
