Pulling Teeth: A Cross-National Analysis of Factors that Influence Dating Violence

Fri, Nov 18, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Hilton, Jefferson Ballroom, 3rd Level

Abstract

Violence between intimates can be difficult to quantify, let alone to discover correlates of its occurrence. When addressing violence among college student dating relationships, the difficulties in quantification and correlation become almost multiplicative, though no less important to study. In this analysis, I seek to uncover some of the factors that influence self-reported rates of dating violence victimization and perpetration among a convenience sample of college students. The International Dating Violence Survey (IDVS) and a series of statistical models are utilized to test a few hypotheses about the correlates and components of dating violence among college students.
