Environmental Factors and Crime: a Spatial Analysis

Abstract

This study aims to disclose the relationship between regional characteristics and crime in Korea. Data were collected from 250 regional governments between 2003 and 2013. Various demographic, socioeconomic and physical environment variables were used to model the rates per 100,000 people of five major crimes (murder, robbery, sex crime, theft, and assault). Panel models were first estimated first, spatial effects were modeled.
