Prison Violence: Global Perspectives on Cause, Prevention, and Control

Abstract

The nature and extent of prison violence varies within and across global regions. Based on a review of the available data on prison violence, the countries with the highest and lowest rates of prison violence are identified and ranked, both globally and within each global region. We also review the available evaluation research examining a range of prison violence prevention and control strategies, and offer an evidence-based strategy for reducing prison violence in each global region.
