Analysis of ethical rules in criminal mustice has traditionally included the relationship between ethics and law. Much has been written about how ethics and law are different from each other (including the issue of consequences of violations), even though they both apply to the same agencies or components of the CJ system. This paper takes a fresh look at this issue and makes a recommendation regarding how to make ethical and legal rules more meaningful, which should encourage relevant actors to take them more seriously.
