The Short-Term Stability of Self-Control

Abstract

Over the years there has been much research testing Gottfredson and Hirschi’s assumptions about self-control. One of the most contentious has been the stability hypothesis. While several studies have identified the instability of self-control over long periods of time, studies testing the stability hypothesis in the short-term have been virtually nonexistent. The current study has tested the dynamic nature of self-control from a short-term perspective using mobile device surveys which offers a unique methodological element to the study.
