Procedural Justice: Test of the Teen And Police Service (TAPS) Academy

Abstract

In 2011 the Houston Police Department and the University of Houston-Clear Lake founded the Teen And Police Service (TAPS) Academy. Funded by a COPS Office grant the program goal is to reduce the social distance between the most at-risk youth and law enforcement. Since inception it has been implemented in several cities around the country and internationally. With over 500 cases this paper will present quantitative and qualitative findings over the past five years.
