Spending leisure time and juvenile delinquency in Switzerland and Ukraine. The role of permissive societies. Results of the ISRD-3

Abstract

The international self-report delinquency study showed a higher prevalence of juvenile delinquency in Switzerland (country from the Western civilization) than in Ukraine (post-Soviet country). It is strongly associated with ways of spending leisure time in both countries. We found that Ukrainian students have no less active night life and friends than their Swiss peers. The obvious difference is in the prevalence of being involved in "bad companies" and consumption of substances that is higher in Switzerland. We suggest that it is the manifestation of Western European highly permissive societies, in contrast to the post-Soviet ones. These and other results, including multivariate analysis, will be discussed during our presentation.
