Do Community Resources Have a Differential Effect on Reconviction for Black and Hispanic Offenders Who Return to Disadvantaged Communities?

Abstract

Prior research exploring the relationship between reentry and recidivism suggests that access to community resources upon release from prison may reduce the likelihood of reoffending. However, this area of study has provided little attention to differential effects these resources may have on black and Hispanic populations who return to different types of communities. In the current study, data is used from the Florida Department of Corrections to examine whether key community services differentially affect the likelihood of reconviction for black and Hispanic populations who return to disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged communities.
